The Nashville Session

Amid the mayhem and blur that was Folk Alliance in Memphis (February, 2010), Pete Fidler and I sat down to have a quiet beer with Mary Sack, David Olney and Sergio Webb. Pete and I really wanted to record some new songs in Nashville on this trip so David rang his producer/engineer Jack Irwin to check on his availability. Jack was into it so we immediately contacted double bassist Dan Seymour whom we had met on a previous tour to set up a rehearsal when we got to Nashville. Dan was happy to oblige and suggested we go to The Basement that evening to meet drummer/percussionist Joe Giotta who was immediately enlisted for the session. Sergio Webb, described by many locals as their ‘favourite guitarist in Nashville’, offered to play on the session as well and so it was on a cold and flaky snow day that we arrived at Jack’s Silvertone Studio at the rear of his house in Nashville to record these five tracks ‘live’. It was a great day with great musicians and we decided early on to leave these songs just as they went down. Pete suggested that evening that we call it ‘The Nashville Session’ and so here it is. Many thanks to Sergio, Dan, Joe and Jack for the time, care and creativity they put into these tracks and to Mary Sack who continues to put it all together for us.
