Jerilderie

My brother Ross and I started writing the songs on this record around the middle of 2008 and a lot of musical adventures have taken place since then to get in the way of finally putting them down. Time has helped the older ones mature through ‘live’ performance and given the newer ones a pony to ride on. Ross and I have developed a really special relationship as brothers through writing together and alone – rhythm in the rhyme, vice versa, truth in lies, lies in truth, war and hell, the bush, family stories, country music, Texas, folklore, fact and fiction etc etc… the beat goes on. Some days we can never get enough of it because it’s so damn exciting and then there are long periods where we settle back into waiting for the next lot to come to us and the beautiful thing is that they always do.

So many people to thank for the making of this record:
Ruth Hazleton who has supported me with her musicality, love, support and vision right from the beginning.
Pete Fidler and I have been making music together since 2006. Pete is a beautiful musician and we have had some fine times and travels together. Probably best summed up by someone who once commented that Pete has a ‘conversation with our lyrics’ and that pretty much says it all.
Our friends in Nashville who played on this record – Dan, Sergio and Justin: thank you so much for taking these songs to places we could never have imagined. Also to Ruth Hazleton, Suzie Dickinson and Kat Mear who added those beautiful extra bits for us back at home.

about

‘I wish to acquaint you with some of the occurrences of the present, past and future…’
(Ned Kelly / Joe Byrne – The Jerilderie Letter, 1879)

My brother Ross and I started writing the songs on this record around the middle of 2008 and a lot of musical adventures have taken place since then to get in the way of finally putting them down. Time has helped the older ones mature through ‘live’ performance and given the newer ones a pony to ride on. Jack Irwin at Silvertone Recording Services who recorded, mixed, co-produced and mastered this record. I think he is a genius at his work. What I love about Jack’s approach and this record is that ten performances took place with five people all playing ‘live’ in the studio together and he makes it happen effortlessly.
David Olney, Sergio Webb, Tommy Womack, Phil Lee, Tom Mason, Ben Reel, John Hadley, Will Kimbrough, Mark Robinson and Irene Kelley who have inspired us with their friendship, support and excellence in songwriting and performance.
Mary Sack in Nashville, TN who has given us the opportunities and support to achieve just that little bit more each time around. Her energy and enthusiasm is infectious and immeasurable … and of course, Ed.
Paul Needham from the UK for his fabulous graphic design, photography and all round support.
Mike White – Southern gentleman, musicologist extraordinaire and great friend – we love you mate.
Mark Gerking for his support, inspiration, taste and amazing poster work.
To all of our other mates and family who continue to support us – Val McGarry, Natty, Colin & Ross, Pete & Deb, Kevin, Gail & Columb, Helen & Ian, Joanne, Simone, Leigh, Lachlan, Emma, Jesse, Tommie Barrett, Jann Seymour, Julie Sola, Kate Burke, Liz & Steve, Barb, Gill, Megs, Liam, Luke & Philly, Barb, John & Robyn, Pammy & Leon, Chris, Sylvie & Chloe, Jim McQuarrie, Sandra, Pete & Heather, Greggy, Arts Victoria & my mother Rose.
Finally - thanks to everyone who has come to our shows, bought CD’s and played us on the radio…
